Cash boost for exotic pet charity in the Highlands
A Nairn-based charity that dedicates itself to rescued reptiles and other exotic creatures has landed a £2000 windfall from another UK animal fundraiser.
Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue, run from the town’s Harbour Street, received the surprise Valentine’s Day boost in recognition of its fine work in caring for rescue animals during 2020.
The donation was made by Support Adoption For Pets (SAFP), the UK’s largest grant-giving animal charity, which was started by the retailer Pets At Home.
SAFP said the extra help was to "recognise the tireless efforts and hard work" at Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue since the Covid-19 outbreak began.
In total, the charity is giving away nearly £600,000 to rescue centres up and down the country.
Animal welfare charities have experienced an upturn in neglected or unwanted pets as financial hardship increases for many during the pandemic.
Support Adoption For Pets charity manager Amy Angus said: "Our message was simple over Valentine’s Day weekend and it’s one we’re really passionate about as a charity.
"We’re here to share the love, and surprising Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue with a donation of £2000 meant the world to them.
"The impact of Covid-19 is monumental and rescue centres continue to fall under real pressure.
"We’re reaching out to provide them with much-needed financial help and to do our best to ensure that abandoned pets are given a second chance of happiness."
