A Drumnadrochit charity has secured £8500 thanks to Scotmid Co-operative’s Community Connect award scheme.
Glenurquhart Care Project, which cares for the elderly and vulnerable, was awarded funding after being shortlisted by the convenience retailer as one of three causes and charities in the north of Scotland to receive financial support from a £84,000 pot.
Anne MacDonald, a project trustee, said: “Receiving this generous award from Scotmid is a great boost to our funds, as like many other social enterprises, we have been adversely affected by Covid-19.”
In normal times, Scotmid members would vote to allocate different amounts of funding from a shortlist of projects.
But due to the pandemic, the Scotmid board agreed all shortlisted groups would receive equal amounts in each region.
Burghead Community Hall in Elgin and CanDu cancer support in Dundee have also received £8500.
Sheila Downie, chairwoman of Scotmid’s north regional committee, said: “Community Connect is one of the main ways we can support the communities we serve and we are delighted to provide Glenurquhart Care Project with funding as it continues to provide vital support to the Drumnadrochit community.”
