A vehicle was covered in police tape after being parked in a spot at Raigmore Hospital reserved for ambulances.

A sign at the outpatients entrance near the A&E department tells drivers warning notices will be placed on unauthorised vehicles, but someone appears to have taken things a step further.

The move was spotted by Inverness South councillor Duncan Macpherson, who shared it on Twitter.

He wrote: "Spotted this at Raigmore Hospital NHS Highland in Inverness tonight.

"Police have taken steps to deter irresponsible people and drivers from parking illegally in the designated police and ambulance only bays beside the outpatients entrance, near to the accident and emergency area."

The move came as work continues to expand parking at Raigmore Hospital and erect barriers to restrict access.

There have been anecdotal reports over the years of drivers parking up at the free hospital site before heading into the city centre or even going off on holiday, making life difficult for patients, visitors and staff trying to find a space.
