A group collecting donations of toiletries for hospital patients is now being backed by a city retailer.

The Caring for NHS Highland group was set up to provide toiletries including shampoo, body wash, deodorants, sanitary towels and razors for patients and staff in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

They have now got the agreement of all ScotMid stores in Inverness to act as official collection points for whatever people can donate.

The group’s Heather Smith (32), from Tornagrain, said: “We were aware that there is a shortage of toiletries on the wards at Raigmore Hospital in this current national health crisis.

“So we decided to set up this fundraiser for people who found themselves in hospital with no time to pack, or due to current restrictions were unable to take anything into hospital with them.”

Mrs Smith said it can take as little as £8 worth of goods to supply an entire ward.

Donations are also being accepted at Tornagrain Stores and the Spar branch in Kinmylies.

Mrs Smith said: “Inverness is a strong community anyway, but the pandemic is bringing out the best in everyone.
