DOCTORS and nurses at Raigmore Hospital's intensive care unit are helping prevent surplus sandwiches and pies from Caley Thistle home games going to waste.

The Championship club's commercial manager Jim Oliver has revealed that he takes the leftovers to the hospital because he is unable to give them to causes that help homeless people.

He said: "Sometimes after we have finished the shut down of the stadium after games we have some sandwiches and pies left over.

"It is so disappointing that we are unable to give them away to some homeless charities because of their rules. However, my daughter works in the intensive care unit at Raigmore and they are delighted to see me at their door after games.

"I know how hard Lauren works and sometimes they do not get a proper break and grabbing a sandwich is their only chance to eat during their shift.

"It is great that these hard-working nurses and doctors are able to benefit from food that would otherwise have to be thrown away."

A spokesman for NHS Highland said: "What a lovely gesture, it is really appreciated."

Caley Thistle's next home game is a cup semi final against Rangers Colts tomorrow.
