POLICE have appealed for information after a man was assaulted on a canal tow path and his bag was stolen.

The incident happened alongside the Caledonian Canal close to Suilven Way in Inverness at 10.30pm on Monday.

The man was approached from behind and assaulted by two men, who then fled with the victim's black string bag and its contents.

His injuries are not thought to be serious.

Detective Sergeant Chris Macleod said: "I would urge anyone who may have been around the area on Monday evening to come forward if you believe you may have seen anything of interest.

"You can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference NN2718/19, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
