Business networking group BNI launches Scotland's first online only membership group in the Highlands

Business networking organisation BNI has formally launched its first online-only group in Scotland – with members drawn from across the Highlands.
BNI Tuath – north in Gaelic – is among the latest chapters to be formally established under the BNI Scotland North umbrella and already has around 25 members.
BNI Scotland North’s 17 groups meet online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but Tuath will be the first to be launched on that basis and to continue as a virtual chapter. As with all BNI groups, it will provide a platform for member companies to share business leads and help others build new relationships.
Douglas Greig, director consultant with BNI Scotland North, said: “Members of Tuath are as much as 100 miles apart, so it’s logical and sensible for it to retain its status as an online entity.
“The participating companies are already well used to engaging with one another via virtual platforms as they look to grow their connections and realise their development ambitions.”
Membership of the group – which covers an area from The Black Isle to Wick – is drawn from sectors that range from professional services and communications to media and transport.
Angela Kinghorn, executive director with BNI Scotland North, said: “Tuath is just one of a series of new groups we have launched in recent times and we’re delighted with the extent and quality of participation to date.
“The online solution overcomes the logistical issues associated with running such a network over a wide geographical area, and we very much hope that other businesses will join us and take advantage of the prospective growth opportunities the group presents.”
BNI Scotland North, part of the global BNI organisation, is owned by Aberdeen-based Angela and husband Bryan, who is also an executive director.
BNI Scotland North, which generated £14 million worth of business for members in 2020, now has a total of 17 groups, with latest additions being chapters for the Stirling area and another covering the Tayside, Perthshire and Fife regions. There are 370 members in total across BNI Scotland North.
BNI members pay a joining fee to be part of a group, which meets on a weekly basis. Each group is formed on a competitor-free basis; only one business from a specific market sector is included in each group. Prior to the pandemic, all meetings were held face-to-face.
BNI is the world’s leading business referral organisation, with 280,000 members in 10,000 chapters across 70 countries. In 2020, members generated over £11.9bn through 11.5 million referrals.
