One of the fiercest critics of NHS Highland has revealed how impressed he has been with the health board’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

GP Dr Iain Kennedy is one of the whistle-blowers who helped expose widespread bullying at NHS Highland board.

Nevertheless he did not hesitate when called on to take up shifts at an assessment centre for patients who may have been infected with Covid-19.

“Like a lot of GPs in the Highlands, I’ve been asked to sign up to shifts at the assessment centres," he said.

"It didn’t take a moment to decide and say yes.

“I am trained as a doctor so it is only natural to go to the frontline at a moment like this.

"GPs are coming forward to treat people from all over. It is great to see.

"But of all the people in the organisation right now those who are working probably the hardest are the managers.

“I’ve been really impressed to see how NHS Highland has produced their assessment centres, that is down to the estates team who have come into their own – they are fantastic clinical rooms.

“It is clear that NHS Highland is thinking of staff a great deal as they are providing great facilities, they provide food and a place to eat – it really is fantastic to see staff so high on the list of priorities.”

Anyone who suspects they may have coronavirus should call NHS24 on 111 in the first instance.
