ScotRail warns of Highland Mainline disruption for services between Inverness and Edinburgh/Glasgow after broken down freight train blocks line near Stirling
A broken down freight train is causing delays and possible cancellations to trains on the Highland Mainline, ScotRail has warned.
The freight train broke down this morning on the line between Larbert and Stirling - meaning the trains running between Inverness and Edinburgh or Glasgow will be affected.
At the time of writing, disruption was expected to last until at least 10am, although this could be pushed back if repairs to the train take longer than expected.
A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We have a received reports of a broken down freight train, between Larbert and Stirling, which is blocking the line. Staff on board are currently trying to fix the issue.

“Services here will be subject to delays, cancellations and alterations at this time.”
They added: “Train services between Edinburgh/Glasgow and Inverness will be cancelled, delayed or revised.”
In an update at 9.43am they added: “An assisting unit is en route to move the broken down freight train. We apologise for the delays this is having to customers in the area. Once we have more details on the train being moved, we will let you know.”
