A CITY bakery looks set to make way for a hip new bar in Inverness city centre.
The Ashers bakery chain has confirmed this week that it is "at an advanced stage of negotiations" over vacating its premises in Church Street to make way for Aberdeenshire-based BrewDog.
It was revealed last month that the pub chain, which has grown rapidly in the past few years and now employs more than 1000 staff in dozens of bars across the UK, was keen to come to the Highland capital.
While there has been no official confirmation from BrewDog itself Ali Asher, joint managing director of the Ashers chain, confirmed talks are progressing.
"It's clearly a very good site for that type of operation now," he said, adding that Ashers itself will not be leaving the city centre but simply moving.
"We have also identified a location round the corner on Union Street which we plan to relocate to at the same time," he said.
"We hope the necessary consents and assistance from the authorities and our local tradesmen will facilitate this being a smooth transition."
Mr Asher also revealed plans for a refurbishment of his chain's cafe at the Farraline Park bus station.
"We look forward to welcoming many loyal and new customers to both these shops and wish BrewDog all the best," he added.
BrewDog was launched in Fraserburgh in 2007 by friends Martin Dickie and James Watt, both then 24, with a mission to increase interest in craft beer.
