Inverness firefighters battle wildfire blaze on Tomnahurich Cemetery Hill

A large wildfire has broken out in woodland on Tomnahurich Cemetery Hill in the heart of Inverness.

The forested burial ground is ablaze with firefighters currently battling to bring it under control.

Two Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances from the city are at the scene after the alarm was raised at 9.52 pm tonight.

Video footage circulating on social media suggested an area on the upper hill was on fire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “I can confirm we have two appliances tackling a fire in a wooded area in Inverness. We received the call at 21:52.

“Two appliances from Inverness are present and they are using hose reel jets to tackle the fire.”
