AN organisation for children and young people has been running a weekly online programme of activities in the Highlands to help members maintain contact with each other during the coronavirus lockdown.

Following government advice, the Boys’ Brigade suspended face-to-face activities and events across Scotland.

But many groups across the Highlands including the 10th Inverness have been determined members can still take part in the programme as much as possible, helping to provide fun and continuity for children and their families in difficult and challenging times.

Ordinarily, the group would meet at Inverness Methodist Church in Huntly Street.

But since the restrictions were introduced, it has turned to holding e-meetings and activities.

Jason McClurg, officer in charge of the 10th Inverness junior section, said these have included discussions, an emoji film quiz and a fun compilation of a dream team of celebrities.

"At first, I wondered if it would engage everyone across all ages and I have been extremely impressed with the input from our members," he said.

"Having these e-meetings means we can stick to some sort of routine and give us all some form of ‘normality’ during these times.

"I believe it helps our young people’s mental health and keeps them in regular contact with each other while schools are closed and Boys' Brigade meetings are off.

"I am enormously proud of my company, especially our young people for taking part with such enthusiasm."
