Door-to-door bottled water deliveries are being dropped off to customers hit by a water main burst, Scottish Water has confirmed.

Engineers for the water supplier are actively working on the B9006 Culloden road after a nine-inch water main "trunk" pipe ruptured next to the busy route.

Emergency repairs are being carried out and "tankering operations" have been introduced to top up the local network in a bid to minimise the number of homes and businesses left without mains water.

Confirming the various measures, a Scottish Water spokesperson said: "We are aware of a burst 9-inch water main, located on a grass verge adjacent to the B9006 roadway between Culloden Moor Inn and Brookfield.

"Our teams are on site and actively preparing to carry out a repair. In the meantime, we have implemented tankering operations, which are maintaining water supplies for the majority of customers in Culloden and the surrounding areas.

"As a precaution, we are conducting door-to-door bottled water deliveries for all customers.

"Traffic management measures are in place to ensure the safety of road users and our workforce.

"We thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue. Further updates will be shared as soon as more information becomes available."

Scottish Water was asked how many homes and businesses had been affected by the burst main, and also when the repairs were expected to be completed, but did not answer those questions.
