An autobiography detailing the life of former Tulloch boss David Sutherland has been launched to raise money for a new children’s unit at Raigmore Hospital.

Entitled "We’ve Come A Long Way", it was published this week and outlines how he grew up in an overcrowded council house but went on to lead one of Scotland’s biggest construction companies.

Mr Sutherland (66), who has retired from his long working weeks, outlines both the triumphs and turbulent times, as well as revealing risks taken along the way.

The book was launched at a book-signing event at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness.

All the proceeds from sales will go to the Highland Children’s Unit Appeal launched by the ARCHIE Foundation in conjunction with The Inverness Courier to create a more family-friendly facility for sick children

The appeal is now just £250,000 short of its £2 million target, and the new unit is on track to open next March.

The work involves the redevelopment and extension of the former ward 11 which was previously used for respiratory patients.

* Copies of "We’ve Come A Long Way" are available, priced £9.99, from Waterstones in the Eastgate Centre, Inverness, and also from For The Right Reasons in Grant Street, Merkinch.
