BOOK lovers are being invited to put their literary knowledge to the test at a quiz in Inverness to mark World Book Night.

The free event at the Market Bar tomorrow is being staged by the organisers of the city’s annual festival, NessBookFest, taking place in October, and will also celebrate the launch of its new website.

The quiz is being organised by festival committee member Emma Hamilton as part of a global celebration of reading and books which takes place every year on April 23. It aims to highlight the difference that reading makes to people’s lives.

“Everyone should come along,” Ms Hamilton said.

“Let’s face it, none of us know anything anyway! Just come for 7pm, bringing your own team or ready to slot into one.

“Numbers are flexible – we can even accommodate lone rangers. Bring a pre-loved book to donate and the winning team gets to split the lot between them.”

NessBookFest, first held in 2016, will take place this year from October 3-5.

The new website aims to reflect the no-barriers ethos of the programme which take authors and poets into schools and public places.

Committee chairwoman Barbara Henderson said this year’s programme is almost finalised with a choice of over 30 free events and workshops. Further details will be announced during the summer.

“Our funding situation is also looking relatively healthy at this point which is a bit of a relief,” she said.

The Scottish Book Trust has approved a funding application for 10 live literature sessions.

“They like what we are doing so much that they want to use us as a case study,” she said.

Foundation Scotland has also given a £2000 award.
