The biggest fireworks display in the Highlands will go ahead as planned this Bonfire Night despite ongoing works at its venue in Inverness - but there will be no space for the usual funfair.

Highland Council made the announcement this morning about this autumn’s display at Bught Park on November 5.

The popular fireworks display is one of the big dates in the city’s calendar, attracting thousands of people from across Inverness and the wider region.

As well the bonfire and fireworks display, the event usually coincides with a funfair too but the council has said this will not be the case at 2024’s event, due to ongoing revamp works in the park leaving insufficient space.

Confirming the announcement, the Inverness events and festivals working group said it was delighted to be hosting the annual bonfire and fireworks at Bught Park on Tuesday, November 5, “once again working with Fireworx Scotland to bring a spectacular display”.

But they added: “Unfortunately, due to the ongoing works at Bught Park it is not possible to accommodate Horne’s Funfair this year, but there will be an array of local food vendors to suit everyone’s tastes. Entertainment will commence at 5.30pm with the fireworks display starting at 7pm.”

News that the funfair will not be part of this year’s bonfire night revelries came at the same time that the council announced that this year’s Red Hot Highland Fling on Hogmanay had been cancelled for 2024.

As with Bught Park, the Fling’s usual venue in the Northern Meeting Park is also undergoing a major revamp, and the council said the presence of these works had made it too costly to accommodate the extra infrastructure needed to work around it.

However, they also vowed that the Fling will be back in December 2025, and presumably the bonfire funfair will also return in future years when the Bught Park works are also completed.
