Body recovered from Highland harbour

After a Thurso man was reported missing on Tuesday, Police Scotland announced that a body was recovered from Scrabster harbour yesterday evening (April 15).

A Police Scotland underwater unit van and inflatable arrived at Scrabster yesterday to aid in the search and at around 5pm the body of a man was recovered from the harbour.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Formal identification has still to take place, however the family of David Budge (55) who was reported missing from Thurso on Tuesday, April 13, has been informed. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."

Thurso RNLI lifeboat The Taylors was launched at 0.10am on Wednesday to assist emergency services including the coastguard search and rescue helicopter try to locate the missing man. It was stood down around 3am and relaunched around 7.50am to conduct further searches.

On Wednesday at 1pm the lifeboat was launched again with its inflatable Y-boat and a search was conducted of the Scrabster harbour area. The crew also used the lifeboats pump to remove water from the newly erected piles, this continued until 2.15pm.

At 3.10pm it launched again, to conduct a low tide search of the area until stood down at 5.30pm.

A spokesperson for Thurso lifeboat said: "Since their call out just past midnight on April 14, The Taylors and its crew have been over 11 hours at sea and a total of 16 hours in service as the lifeboat has to be deep cleaned and refuelled each time it returns then made ready for service."
