POLICE searching for a missing Dutch walker have found the body of a man in woods near the village of Tomich in Glen Affric.

The discovery was made around 3.30pm on Thursday afternoon after emergency services were alerted by a member of the public.

Cornelius Hendrick Van Der Wetering (54), was last seen in the Tomich area on Wednesday, December 28, having previously stayed at a guest house in Inverness.

It is understood he had planned to walk from Tomich to Kyle of Lochalsh via Glen Affric. Called the Affric Kintail Way, the 44-mile route is a popular long-distance hike which is usually completed in two or three days.

Police Scotland officers are liaising with the family of Mr Van Der Wetering.

A police spokeswoman said there are no suspicious circumstances and as with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
