THE RNLI's Loch Ness lifeboat crew came to the rescue after a cruiser ran aground on a sand bar this afternoon.

The incident took place in Urquhart Bay, outside the lifeboat station, at around 1pm.

"The vessel was towed clear and the family of six aboard were able to continue on their way," said an RNLI spokesman.

"The lifeboat crew were happy to free them from their predicament and wave them on their way."
