DEMAND for tourism accommodation in Inverness is soaring with the main holiday season under way combined with a series of events including a concert by the legendary 60s band, The Beach Boys, this Saturday.

Hotel rooms and bed and breakfast accommodation were in short supply over the weekend, which featured a series of events including a concert by UB40 at the city’s Northern Meeting Park (above) plus an Outlander convention in Aviemore.

The arrival at Invergordon of the cruise ship, Caribbean Princess, also added to the buzz with some of the 3000 passengers visiting the city. With The Beach Boys due to perform at the Inverness Leisure Centre on Saturday, demand for beds is already high.

Harold Annan, vice chairman of the Inverness Hotels Association, expected many hotels would be running at near full capacity until September.

“As an average, they will be about 95 per cent full,” he said. “Demand is just growing.”

VisitScotland’s chief executive, Malcolm Roughead, said it was not just big events which attracted visitors. “The spectacular scenery, the culture and the warm welcome of the locals all help to make the Highlands a top destination all-year round and we are looking forward to another successful summer season,” he said.
