During lockdown one Inverness barber's online video on how to cut your hair went viral.

Highland Barbers is tucked away up Market Brae Steps and is run by Dianne Dunn who said she did not expect people from all over the country would see it.

She said: “I posted a video throughout lockdown on how to cut your own hair on Facebook and a lot of people said that it had helped them a lot and their wives had managed to follow it.

“I didn’t realise how far it would go – I thought it would just reach my own clients but it got as far as Glasgow.”

Mrs Dunne reopened the men’s barbershop last month, in line with the official guidance from the Scottish Government, and it had been quieter than she was expecting.

She said: “We all thought we were going to come back and it was going to be really busy, because people hadn’t had haircuts for months, but it wasn’t that busy because a lot of people were doing home haircuts.”

Mrs Dunne said that people should feel safe and confident to return because she, along with other city centre businesses, had put the appropriate safety measures in place.

She said: “We are wearing masks and we have plastic aprons and gowns – we sterilise after every customer. We’ve had to change to appointments because of the guidelines.

“I think people should feel safe, definitely, everything is sterilised and I want people to feel as safe and confident as before.”

During an appointment there is only Mrs Dunne and the client on the premises which she said should reassure those who were less confident. She said: “Both the client and myself have to wear masks.”
