A NATIONAL Grid linesman has been fined £640 and banned from driving for 16 months.

Francis Thompson (32) of Mackintosh Court, Forres, admitted driving in Nairn on May 30 while more than four times the legal drink-drive limit. His reading was 93mcg of alcohol when the maximum is 22mcg.

Defence solicitor Neil Wilson told the court his client had visited his father in Nairn and intended staying overnight but there had been an argument.

“He decided to leave and go to his mother’s house which was not far away,” Mr Wilson said.

“He should have taken a taxi.

“It will be awkward for him to get around Scotland but he won’t lose his job unless there is a downturn.”
