A popular miniature railway in Inverness is back up and running.

Ness Islands Railway – which operates in aid of Highland Hospice – would have started its season in March but that was halted by the pandemic.

Yesterday it was open for the first time this year.

A spokesman said: "Despite the restrictions that we had to put in place to provide social distancing, our very welcome passengers were understanding and sympathetic and all seemed to enjoy their trips.

"We intend, subject to weather and staff availability, and of course any renewed Covid-19 issues, to open every day from 11am-4pm, until the schools go back.

"The shop will not be opening for the foreseeable future, and no seating will be available for non-travellers, because of social-distancing requirements. Thank you very much for your support in these trying times."
