A HOUSING project that has revitalised a neglected area of Inverness is rubbing shoulders with Dundee’s V & A Museum and the Queensferry Crossing over the Forth.

They are all on an awards shortlist recognising Scotland’s most innovative and community beneficial building projects.

The Raining’s Stairs development, a collaboration between Highland Council, Ark Estates and the Highland Housing Alliance to build affordable homes and rebuild the historic steps overlooking Inverness Town House, is nominated in two categories in the 2019 RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) Scotland Awards.

The project, built by Inverness firm William Gray Construction, is shortlisted in both the residential and regeneration categories in the awards.

Alliance chief executive Gail Matheson said: “We are delighted that Raining’s Close, Inverness has been shortlisted this year by the RICS and the Scottish Property Awards, in recognition of the delivery of housing for local people and families and reinvigorating a challenging brownfield area of Inverness.

“The development features 16 contemporary apartments that have been delivered in collaboration with Highland Council, Scottish Government and Inverness City Deal to bring affordable, well designed, high-quality homes to people and families from both within the local area and those wishing to return to the region.”

Judging panel chairman Colin Smith said teams behind shortlisted projects should be extremely proud.

Winners will be announced in Glasgow on May 2 and will go on to compete against other regional winners at the national RICS Awards Grand Final in November.
