Like the recent weather, things are hotting up for the highlight of this year’s business calendar – Highland Business Week 2022.

Organised by Inverness Chamber of Commerce, Highland Business Week in September provides opportunities for businesses to raise their profile as well as have their achievements recognised during a week-long series of events including the business-to-business Highland Spotlight Exhibition and the finale of the week, the Highland Business Awards.

One way in which businesses can ensure success is by equipping employees with the tools they need to do their jobs effectively, and providing options for ongoing learning and personal development.

Business leaders must make sure that they are providing a nurturing environment for their employees and create a space for upskilling to take place.

The company teclan Ltd have recognised this, and are sponsoring the award for workforce upskilling at this year’s Highland Business Awards.

Neil McGregor, head of sales and business development at teclan, said: “teclan Ltd are delighted to be sponsoring the Highland Business Award for workforce upskilling.

“We believe deeply in the value and importance of giving employees opportunities to learn, maximise potential and grow within their companies.

“It is vital that our workforce continue to learn new skills, especially in the Highlands, where we have an ever evolving landscape of opportunities.

“It is our pleasure to recognise businesses with a similar passion for learning and development.”

Another aspect of running a successful business is the ability to be resilient, be adaptable to change and overcome challenges quickly.

Caithness Chamber of Commerce know the importance of this quality and are sponsoring the resilience award at this year’s Highland Business Awards.

Trudy Morris, chief executive of Caithness Chamber of Commerce said: “We are delighted to once again be involved in the Highland Business Awards run by Inverness Chamber of Commerce.

“I have had the privilege of being on the judging panel for many years and it is always a pleasure to read about the innovative and amazing activities businesses are involved in and the products and services they provide from across the Highlands.

“We have chosen to sponsor the Highland Business Award for resilience for a second year. Last year the award captured all that we had faced as a business community through the pandemic. This year, for me, it’s all about resilience in the face of numerous economic shockwaves.

“Businesses are facing unprecedented rises in the cost of energy, services, and supplies, and they are dealing with a lack of skills as well as staff shortages and absences - a result of Covid. With economists predicting worse to come as we approach the end of the year, business resilience is vital.”

She added: “I hope businesses will take the time to apply. No doubt there are many inspiring examples of flexibility and fortitude out there.

“This is an opportunity for businesses to tell their stories and to be recognised for their resilience.”

Details of all the categories, and nomination forms, can be found on the Inverness Chamber of Commerce website.

Nominations close on August 5.
