Historian and writer Sarah Fraser set to interview Outlander's best-selling author Diana Gabaldon at Eden Court event in Inverness

A HIGHLAND-based historian will be hosting an interview with the author of the best-selling Outlander book series at Eden Court next month.

Award-winning writer, historian and broadcaster, Sarah Fraser, will be interviewing Diana Gabaldon on Saturday, 15th October, as part of the event An Audience with Diana Gabaldon, organised by the local fan group, Inverness Outlanders.

Ms Fraser Said: “I am very excited to be interviewing Diana Gabaldon. As a fellow writer, I am in awe of her achievements. There are few writers in the world who have achieved her sales. Her vision is panoramic, stretching from the Highlands to the fledgling United States. On top of that, Diana’s ability to create scenes of huge emotional power means that history and personal narrative are woven together to give stories of great scale Ms Fraser’s credentials as an esteemed author, speaker and historical consultant, plus the fact that she married into the Clan Fraser of Lovat, has appeared in Men in Kilts with Outlander TV stars Sam Heughan and Graham MacTavish and has written a PhD on obscene Gaelic poetry is sure to add a good deal of spice to the evening’s proceedings.and also intimacy. She is extraordinary.”

Author of The Last Highlander, which tells the story of one of the most notorious Clan Fraser chiefs, Lovat of the ’45also known as Jamie Fraser’s grandfather in the Outlander series.

Ms Fraser’s main focus in writing and broadcasting is on the British Stuart era – from the death of Elizabeth I in 1603 to the doomed Jacobite rising of Prince Charles Edward Stuart in 1745.

Sinead Robertson, chair of Inverness Outlanders, said: “We are sure that Sarah, who is also a member of our group, will bring a very special insight into her discussions with Diana Gabaldon. They are both historical authors who know so much about Scotland, the Highlands, Clan Fraser of Lovat and who both weave stories of love and hate, hope and fear, power and weakness, peace and war, friendship and enmity into their work.

"We can’t wait to hear what topics they touch on and, of course, there is a chance for the audience to ask their own questions of Diana Gabaldon at the end of the evening. Diana will also be doing a book signing after the event finishes.”

Fans from around the UK and from as far afield as Australia, US, Sweden and Germany are expected to attend the event.

Outlander follows the story of a married English World War II combat nurse who mysteriously travels back in time to 18th century Jacobite Scotland where she is forced to marry Scottish Highlander, Jamie Fraser, who she eventually falls in love with.

The early storylines follow the characters up to and beyond the Battle of Culloden in 1746, and the ninth book in the series, Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone, is set in the US in 1779 and 1780 as the American Revolution enters its final phase.

Tickets for the event are available from Eden Court Theatre priced at £20.
