The renewables sector offers many opportunities for talented individuals.
The renewables sector offers many opportunities for talented individuals.

While the second Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Awards is a celebration of the sector as a whole and the companies which make it such a success, there is still room to single out promising individuals.

The most promising individual award is designed to recognise and encourage someone at the start of their career in the green energy sector.

It replaces the best trainee/apprentice award won by G & A Barnie Group apprentice Angus Ross at the inaugural awards last year.

The first person to take home the new award at the black-tie ceremony on Thursday, April 30, will be an outstanding individual within the first five years of their career in the Highlands and Islands renewable energy sector.

Nominations will be expected to show the level of success and impact already achieved, and the potential for the person to become a future leader in the sector.

There is no age limit, but the nominee must be in the formative stages of their renewables career and must demonstrate a significant contribution and dedication to the sector.

The award is sponsored by recruitment specialists ManpowerGroup/Brook Street, who know a lot about matching the right person with a career where they can fulfil their promise.

Area manager for the Highlands Wendy Mitchell said: “ManpowerGroup is in a privileged position connecting thousands of talented individuals every year with rewarding opportunities where they can unleash their potential. We see the difference that people are able to make every day, for themselves, their workplace or for the communities they live in.

“The most promising individual award encapsulates this spirit of personal and professional achievement, which is at the heart of everything we stand for and why ManpowerGroup is proud to sponsor this award.”

The final deadline for entries is Saturday, March 28.

Any organisation or individual considering applying for the most promising individual category or any of the nine awards, but not ready ready to submit an entry, can register their interest until Saturday, March 7.

After this they will be sent a reminder to send a completed entry form in time for the deadline.

The Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Awards will be held at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness and tickets for the awards dinner and live entertainment are also available via the Renewable Energy Day website.

The awards follow the 11th Scottish Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Conference (SHREC), also at the Kingsmills Hotel.

Both events are supported by leading Scottish law firm Harper Macleod, which founded SHREC in 2010, and Highland News & Media, publisher of the Executive business magazine and 18 newspaper titles across the Highlands and north-east Scotland.

SHREC is free to attend, but spaces are limited. To book a place, call 01463 796666 or visit www.harpermacleod.co.uk/events

SHREC 2020, which runs from 11.30am to 4pm, will tackle the theme of climate change and take a wider look at the environmental and economic benefits that renewable energy offers.
