THE sharing of personal photographs via social media is the focus of a pop-up exhibition in Inverness.
The exhibition, #cutebabiesofinstagram by Holly Osborne, is showing at the Upstairs Gallery at the offices of HRI | Munro Architecture in Academy Street.
The Dingwall artist questions public versus private imagery and the way in which people divulge every aspect of their lives on social media.
“In the post-internet society, the lines between what’s real and through a screen continually blur,” Ms Osborne said.
“Using the innate ‘cuteness’ of babies, my aim is to unsettle the audience with a disquieting humour.”
Often using children’s pens and pencils to draw with, she then translates seemingly unsophisticated figures into large scale paintings using materials such as canvas and oil paint.
Ms Osborne describes herself as a collector of images, gathering material from sources such as magazines, books and the internet.
Her work often reflects upon the mundane routines of everyday life.
The Leith-born artist graduated with a first-class BA (Hons) degree from the Glasgow School of Art last year.
Ms Osborne also received a New Graduate Award from Society of Scottish Artists (SSA). The winners are chosen by members of the SSA council after visiting the degree shows of Scotland’s five schools of art.
The award offers two years membership of the society and inclusion of selected works in the annual exhibition
Her work has previously been shown in group exhibitions in Glasgow but this is her first solo exhibition
It can be seen until April 26 between 10am and 4pm on weekdays.
Applications for exhibition space at the Upstairs Gallery can be made online through www.upstairs.scot.
