AN artistic school leaver who wowed teachers with her “outstanding” talent has been honoured by a local art trust.

Chloe Fea (18), who studied at Fortrose Academy but recently began an arts course in Glasgow, is the winner of 2020’s Cromarty Arts Trust Caroline Hewat Prize. The honour is awarded to a school leaver demonstrating “outstanding ability in art and design”.

As well as the accolade and certificate, the prize includes either an intern opportunity (in some years) or complimentary entry to two of the trust’s workshops and courses. Where these options prove tricky however, the trust offers prize-winners £250 in Hobbycraft vouchers.

Ms Fea was thrilled, stating: “I’m delighted to have won this award for art. The vouchers have come at just the right time and will be a huge help for me getting materials for my current and future course!”

She has already embarked on her next artistic chapter – an HNC in applied arts at the City of Glasgow College. After she completes it she will move on to a confirmed place at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, and a degree in costume design and construction.

The 2019 prize-winner, Abby Ross of Avoch, also opted for the vouchers and has only recently managed to receive these.

She currently studies visual communication at the UHI.

The Cromarty Arts Trust Caroline Hewat Prize was created in 2017 in memory of the trust’s former manager and well-respected local artist, Caroline, who died suddenly in 2015.
