AN Inverness social enterprise is partnering up with an online platform to host an art materials swap in the Highland capital.

Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop and the Circular Arts Network (CAN) are hosting a free art materials swap event at Inverness Creative Academy on Saturday March 18.

The event will enable creatives to trade and pass on new and gently-used art supplies to share with fellow creatives.

Isabel McLeish, project officer from Velocity, said: “We are looking forward to hosting the art materials swap event in partnership with the Circular Arts Network (CAN)!

"We are excited about bringing artists and creatives together to share materials and contribute towards a more circular economy. CAN is a brilliant online platform for artists and it would be great to see it being used across the Highlands. We know that artists are already great at being resourceful and saving materials but this is a great opportunity for everyone to have a sustainable declutter and spring-clean of their studios!”

The aim of the initiative is to build a circular arts economy in the Highlands and encourage artists and creatives to reduce their art stash with purpose, swap supplies and give others the opportunity to experiment with new materials.

The swap will prevent unused goods from going to landfill, help others save money, and allow the products to be used to their fullest potential.

CAN is a free online platform which enables creatives to connect with each other and to share and pass on materials.

The platform's founder, Kate Robertson, said: “CAN are really excited to be working with the Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop to deliver a super materials swap event in Inverness.

"Not only is it a great opportunity to get some free stuff and clear some space, it's also a chance to meet like-minded people. CAN are particularly excited to encourage a community of users in the North of Scotland.

"We have had lots of great exchanges happening across the central belt, but CAN is a great resource to use anywhere - helping people save money and the planet. We look forward to coming up to Inverness and welcoming lots of new people to the Circular Arts Network.”

Art materials drop-off times are Friday March 17 from 2 to 4pm and on the day of the event from 10am. The session will run from 11am to 3pm.

Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop are one of the founding members of the Highland Community Waste Partnership which aims to build a movement for more sustainable consumption across the Highlands. The partnership is working to reduce waste and encourage the use of pre-loved, secondhand and shared goods, instead of new purchases.

They are also seeking event volunteers to help with organising and sorting materials by category and running the swap on the day. If you are interested or have any questions, please email HCWP@velocitylove.co.uk

You can find out more information about the event via Eventbrite.
