Argument about sandwich led to night in police cell for Inverness man

A row over the length of time it was taking to make a sandwich landed an Inverness man in police cells overnight.

Benjamin Drummond (48) of Wester Inshes Place, Inverness appeared from custody at Inverness Sheriff Court today [Saturday] and admitted shouting and swearing at his partner Heather Ennis in their home yesterday.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald was told that Drummond and his partner were bickering all day in their flat.

Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said: "They were fed up of being cooped up for such a length of time.

"Neighbours heard them bickering and the police were contacted."

He told Sheriff Macdonald that his client was still under supervision as part of a community payback order and a background report would therefore be required.

Mr Dickson applied for bail.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir said: "The disturbance started over how long it took her to make a sandwich."

Sheriff Macdonald granted bail and deferred sentence until May 7 for the report to be prepared.
