All change on Inverness High Street, as one gift shop expands and another shuts down

A woollen goods shop on Inverness High Street is to increase its sales potential by also occupying a nearby empty store to include luxury cashmere to its existing stock of assorted tartan and other items.

The Highlander will remain in its current form and location but will expand to the premises a few doors down recently vacated by Shoe Zone.

Maria Gray, administration manager at The Highlander’s headquarters in Edinburgh, said: “The new shop will have more focus on cashmere although it will also carry similar ranges as are currently in The Highlander.

“Included in the early cashmere stock will be a zip-up cardigan which will be in a nice blend of colours making it suitable to be a unisex item.”

Meanwhile, in the same area of the High Street, Highland Gifts has closed down after opening there early this year. No one could be contacted from that business.

Inverness BID which works to promote and support businesses in the city centre had not heard what was behind this closure, but it welcomed that the Shoe Zone premises would be open again soon.
