Passengers welcomed the good weather as the Ness Islands Railway in Inverness reopened on Saturday.

Passengers were finally able to take a trip on the popular Ness Islands Railway when it was able to reopen for the season.

Adults and youngsters alike flocked to the much-loved Whin Park tourist attraction in Inverness when it started moving again on Saturday.

It is operated by Highland Hospice and the charity’s head of fundraising Andrew Leaver said: “We are delighted that we have been able to reopen Ness Islands Railway again this year.

“Support for the railway since the hospice took over two years ago has been fantastic and we are so pleased that the public continue to love and enjoy their train rides with us.

“We want to say a huge thank you to the volunteers, old and new, who have done super work cleaning up and landscaping the grounds over the winter and who work every day during the holidays and at weekends to keep the train running. Ness Islands Railway will be open daily, weather permitting, until April 18, and then at weekends until schools break up for the summer and will return to a daily schedule.”
