Police apprehended him in nearby Baron Taylor's Street where the 19 year old attacked the constable.

Fiscal depute Sharon Ralph told Inverness Sheriff Court: "While police were dealing with an acquaintance of hers, she became agitated and remonstrated with the officers as they tried to handcuff him.

"She then punched the officer on the left side of her jaw with her fist."

Cameron, who pleaded guilty to assault, claimed to police later that she didn't punch the officer but "I was only trying to get her off me."

Defending, Marc Dickson told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald: "She has little recollection of the offence as she was heavily intoxicated at the time."

Cameron was placed on a year's social work supervision and has to participate in a programme designed to help her make better choices in the future.
