A missing cat has been reunited with owners after more than a year.

Jake, who was found living behind Asda in Inverness, was originally from Beauly, and mystery surrounds where he has been for the last 15 months.

Because he had been micro chipped Inverness Cat Rescue was able to contact his owners who said they would never see him again, and were delighted to get him back.

A post on Inverness Cat Rescue's social media page said: "Recently we were contacted about a cat that had been seen hanging around at the back of Asda.

"The cat looked to be in good condition, and of course there are a lot of new houses in that area, so we assumed that he belonged nearby.

"However yesterday we were again contacted, this time by staff at Asda. We were told that the cat had been there continually for almost two weeks, and that he was sleeping in the bushes.

"We tried to find him yesterday, but he was nowhere to be seen, so we left a carrier with staff so that they could keep him safe until we would collect him. He was caught late last night, and a member of staff took him home until we could collect him this morning.

"We brought him back to the shelter and scanned him...eureka!, he was chipped.

"He turned out to be Jake, who has been missing from Beauly for over a year! We contacted his owner who told us he actually went missing in August 2020. She was so relieved to hear that he was safe.

"Shona and her daughter Lexi and son Calum had almost given up hope of ever seeing him again."

It continued: "Of course, the moral of the story (once again) is... get your cat micro chipped. If not for the chip, Jake would never have been reunited with his family.

"Now, the mystery remains, where has Jake been for the past 14 months?

" He is in good healthy condition and his coat is soft and shiny. He certainly hasn't been 'on the road' for all that time.

"If you can shed light on where this lovely cat has been lodging we'd love to know."
