Afghan woman fled Taliban to Moray and shares heartbreaking story

A woman who was forced to flee her homeland to escape the Taliban has shared her story of heartbreak and defiance.

Life changed overnight for Shaqayeq Nejah when the Taliban took hold of Afghanistan in 2021.

With her right to education removed, she quickly fled the country, leaving behind friends and loved ones.

Now studying at UHI Moray, Shaqayeq was named Student of the Year and is flourishing.

She took time to speak to Northern Scot reporter Alistair Whitfield and look back at what has been an extraordinarily difficult three years for her and millions of other Afghan women.
