Affordable homes boost for Inverness
DOZENS of new homes are to be built in Inverness as part of a new initiative by the Scottish Government and Scottish Futures Trust.
Forty-two houses and flats will be built by Highland Housing Alliance in Westercraigs as part of the scheme to boost the level of new affordable homes in the city.
The project, known as the National Housing Trust, will provide the homes for rent at below market rates and will be jointly funded by developers and the local authority, with Holyrood covering any borrowed funds.
"We wanted to take advantage of the National Housing Trust opportunity to work with Highland Council to deliver good quality rented housing for those currently struggling to get on the home ownership ladder in Inverness," explained Susan Torrance, chief executive of the Highland Housing Alliance.
"The Westercraigs houses, when finished, will have some of the finest views in the Highlands and we are delighted to be working with Robertson Highland to build these homes."
Councillor Margaret Davidson, chairman of the council’s housing and social work committee, was excited to be involved.
"This will fill the gap in the market and help those who cannot afford to buy in the current financial climate."
A similar project has been agreed for the Scottish Borders and further deals are expected soon.
