Highland officer urges act now to secure your vote in the European Parliamentary election

PEOPLE are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote in next month's European Parliamentary elections.

The vote will be held on May 23.

Bill Gillies, electoral registration officer for the Highland and Western Isles area, said: “To vote in the European Parliamentary election, anyone who has never registered or has recently moved must register by midnight on May 7.

"The quickest and easiest way to register to vote is online at www.gov.uk/registertovote – it only takes five minutes.”

People only need to register once – there is no need to register separately for every election.

You must re-register if you have changed address, name or nationality.

EU citizens wishing to cast their vote in the UK must be registered to vote and also submit a declaration form by May 7.

Mr Gillies added: “If you haven’t received your poll card or are unsure whether you are registered, you should call the electoral registration office on 0800 393 783 to check.”
