Summer motorists on the A96 face a month-and-a-half of disruption near Inverness Airport.

Around £320,000 worth of essential works are due to take place on a 1.2km stretch of the trunk road from the Inverness Airport roundabout to the Dalcross junction.

The roadworks, which include major drainage improvements, will begin on Monday, June 9 and run until Friday, July 19.

The work will only take place on weekdays, and only between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm, in order to minimise disruption to commuters and weekend travellers. However, two-way traffic lights will be in place during the works, increasing to four-way traffic lights on days where the work is concentrated closer to the Inverness Airport roundabout.

Contractor Amey will be carrying out the work on behalf of Transport Scotland. It will include filter drain remediation to reduce the risk of flooding, improving overall safety for over 2500 daily road users.

Amey has also warned that the works will be weather dependent and could be cancelled, rescheduled or hit by delays if conditions are not good.
