Motorists on the A96 are being warned of disruption when a stretch north-east of Culloden is closed for night-time works later this month.

A section more than one kilometre long will be closed at night between the B9039 at Newton of Petty and a spot 160 metres north-east of Barn Church Road from November 25 to 29 inclusive.

The road will be shut from 7.30pm to 6.30am each night, with lengthy diversions in place between Inverness and Nairn via Westhill, Croy, Clephanton and Cawdor.

Sections of the A96 that aren't closed between Inverness and Nairn will be for local access only.

The work is scheduled to end at 6.30am on Saturday, November 30, although this will be weather dependent.

And motorists planning to fly in or out of Inverness Airport are being urged to plan their journeys accordingly, and allow for extra time of the road while they navigate the diversion.

Taking to its social channels, a spokesperson for Inverness Airport said: "Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be carrying out a crucial carriageway maintenance scheme on the A96 east of Inverness.

"Please allow extra time for your journey to and from the airport during this period to accommodate potential delays."
