Fire crews recalled but A9 near Carrbridge stays closed

UPDATE: Woman dies and four people seriously injured after crash on A9 near Carrbridge

UPDATE: A9 reopens after road traffic incident at Carrbridge last night

The A9 was set to stay closed for some time after an incident last night.

All emergency services were ordered to the scene near the A95 turn off to Carrbridge, including an air ambulance.

Traffic Scotland reported that the road was closed in both directions at 10.29pm and was still closed at its last update at 2.35am today.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service despatched appliances from Aviemore, Grantown and Carrbridge “to assist the ambulance service.”

The fire crews have since been recalled but Traffic Scotland advises: “The A9 is closed to all traffic at Carrbridge due to a road traffic incident.

“Road users are advised to use an alternative route and expect longer than normal journey times.”

One motorist, who was near the event tonight, said: “It was 22:39 that the helicopter landed.

“There were probably 10 or more emergency vehicles there and more arriving as we turned around and diverted through Carrbridge.

“Police said that it's going to be closed ‘for quite a long time’ so doesn't look good.

“When we went back onto the A9 at Aviemore north the road was closed at that junction.

“There was only the lorry and a car infront of us, makes you wonder doesn't it? I had literally stopped for a few minutes as I left Inverness to take a photo of the sunset...if I hadn't, who knows?”

Police Scotland have been asked for an update when possible.
