A LORRY fire has closed the A9 north of Evanton, Traffic Scotland has announced.

Posting an alert at 4pm, the transport body said: “The A9 north of Evanton is currently closed due to a lorry fire. Emergency services are en route. Please use an alternate route in the meantime.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the alarm was raised at 3.40pm, and two fire engines - both from Invergordon - were in attendance.

There were no further details at the time of writing (4.05pm).

The incident occurred just a few hours after an unrelated three-vehicle crash partially blocked the A9 at Tain.

One woman was taken to hospital following that earlier incident, which occurred at Tain's Knockbreck junction at 11.45am.
