Essential resurfacing works which will close a stretch of the A82 next to Loch Ness for several nights are set to over-run into the middle of the month due to bad weather.

Bear Scotland contractors began work on a section of the trunk road just south of Invermoriston on June 30.

The resurfacing is necessitating the overnight closure of the road on nine different nights between the hours of 7pm and 6am, with motorists being diverted along the A87 for 13 miles before joining the A887 near Loch Loyne and heading a further 15 miles back to the A82 at Invergarry.

But the original end date has now slipped back to 6am on Tuesday, July 16 after the summer’s poor weather led to the works taking longer than expected.

Ian Stewart, Bear Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “These maintenance works on the A82 South of Invermoriston will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.

“The overnight closures are essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
