A SECOND caravan has been abandoned at a Highland beauty spot.

The caravan, that was seen a few days before on website Gumtree, was left overlooking the Nairn River near Daviot, just off the busy A9.

It is the second time a caravan has been left in the same place in a matter of weeks.

Councillor Duncan Macpherson, Inverness South ward, who has raised the matter with both the police and Highland Council said the area was now becoming a dumping ground for caravans.

He said: "What is quite ridiculous is that this is the second time in a matter of weeks that a caravan has been dumped in this same spot.

"Just after we organised to have the last one removed – this one has appeared. The difference this time is, one of my constituents saw this same caravan on Gumtree for sale.

"It had also been taken around scrap yards. So we know whose caravan it is, and I would invite them to come forward and remove it. Otherwise they will be billed by the council for its removal."

Cllr Macpherson explained: "People think that caravans will be worth something to a scrap metal dealer, but the fact is there is very little reuseable scrap in a caravan and it can cost somewhere in the region of £200-350 to have it scrapped."

Mr Macpherson said he was called by his constituents in the area who were frustrated that another caravan had been dumped in the area.

He continued: "The caravan, although it had broken windows and doors, was only just left in this area, there was still fresh bread dated October 22 and milk in the fridge.

"Someone has done this deliberately, and the local residents are scunnered, if my email inbox is anything to go by."
