TWO new faces are appearing on the bench at the Inverness Justice Centre which opened for business in March of this year.

Sheriff Robert Frazer from Edinburgh will act as a floating sheriff throughout the Highlands and Islands and Sheriff Ian Cruickshank from Moray will combine his role in Inverness with his duties as sheriff in Lerwick.

Sheriff Frazer (59) was a member of the bar of the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh before his appointment as a sheriff in September and will soon be moving to the Highland with his family.

Educated at Dollar Academy and Edinburgh University he was formerly a partner at law firms in Livingston and Edinburgh where he practised in civil and criminal casework specialising in sheriff court litigation.

He was appointed an advocate depute by the Crown Office in 2015 and was a Law Society representative from 2001 to 2011 specialising in professional regulation.

Sheriff Cruickshank (55) was educated at Keith Grammar School and Aberdeen University.

His career as a solicitor was spent in Elgin and he became the first solicitor advocate for Moray in 1999.

He had his own practice for 20 years before his appointment as sheriff in 2018.

He was convener of the Criminal Law Committee of the Law Society and sat on Lord Bonomy’s review of corroboration and Lord Bracadale’s hate crime review.
