NHS Highland area reports a further 83 positive tests for Covid-19 coronavirus

EIGHTY-three further Covid-19 cases were detected across the NHS Highland region in the past day.

The area’s cumulative number of infections increased from 2622 to 2705 when the latest daily update was published at 2pm.

Across Scotland a total of 2039 positive tests were recorded in the past 24 hours – representing 10.5 per cent of all people tested that day.

The number of people requiring hospital treatment for the virus continued to rise, up 37 to 1384.

Of those, some 95 were in intensive care – an increase of two on yesterday’s update.

And, sadly, a further 68 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Eileanan Siar reported no fresh cases in the past day.

NHS Orkney’s recent run of days without any positive tests has ended after two new infections were confirmed – taking its cumulative total to 41.

And NHS Shetland recorded a dozen new cases, for an overall tally of 163.

NHS Grampian detected 206 new infections in the past day to take its total beyond 9000 to 9177.

And NHS Tayside’s cumulative number of cases now stands at 9361 after a further 177 positive tests were carried out.

Scotland has now recorded 141,066 positive tests since the start of the pandemic last spring.
