Inverness events to mark 80th anniversary of VJ Day at the end of World War II
The 80th anniversary of the end of World War II will be commemorated in Inverness with memorial services to mark VJ Day.
VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day, effectively brought the curtain down on the war in the Pacific in August 1945 following the surrender of the Japanese forces in the wake of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
It followed the capitulation of Nazi Germany in May of the same year and signalled the imminent end of the devastating global conflict which had been fought on numerous continents and cost the lives of millions of people.
