Highland Council economy and infrastructure chairman welcomes start of work to introduce traffic lights at ‘hazardous’ Inverness junction between Tower Road and Culloden Road
Moves to introduce traffic lights to a “particularly hazardous” Inverness junction will bring up to eight weeks of disruption for motorists.
The road safety works will take place from Monday (October 7) at the busy B9006 accident hotspot joining Tower Road and Culloden Road.
Tower Road will be closed between its junction with the B9006 (Inverness - Culloden Road) and its junction with Caulfield Road to enable junction signalisation works to proceed.
That part of the project will close the Tower Road section for four weeks from Monday, October 7.
Chairman of Highland Council’s economy and infrastructure committee, councillor Ken Gowans, welcomed the start of the work.
Cllr Gowans said: “The Tower Road / Culloden Road junction has been particularly hazardous for many years. I am delighted to see works starting to improve road safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
“Strath Civil Engineering Limited will be carrying out the work that will provide a new signalized junction and layout.
“While there will inevitably be some disruption, which will be kept to a minimum, I would urge motorists to plan ahead accordingly while the works are ongoing as the end results will make the junction safer for all.
“This work will greatly improve the safety of the junction, which will be widely welcomed.”
The upper end of Tower Road, between Caulfield Road and Culloden Road, will be closed for part of the works with traffic diverted via Caulfield Road.
The B9006 Culloden Road will remain open but will be subject to traffic control at various times during the works.
Using the road closure will reduce the duration of the works, minimise the use of three way traffic lights and minimise delays to traffic on Culloden Road.
The works are expected to last eight weeks in all.
