Motorists using the A9 at Daviot are set to benefit from an improved road surface with work due to begin on Sunday night.

A £600,000 investment by Transport Scotland will see improvements carried out across 2km sections of both the southbound and northbound dual carriageways.

The overnight project is set to take four weeks to complete with the project split into two phases.

Improvements will take place between 7pm and 7am each day with surfacing works expected to be completed by 7am on September 20.

The first phase of the project will begin on the southbound carriageway for two weeks before moving onto the northbound carriageway. No works are programmed for Friday or Saturday nights.

There will be a 10mph convoy system and temporary traffic lights in place while work is carried out.

The north Moy junction will also be closed for safety between 7pm and 7am from September 8-18 when the project moves to the northbound carriageway.

Access to Moy will be maintained through a signed diversion route via the south Moy junction.

Eddie Ross, Bear Scotland’s representative for the north west, said: “These £600,000 essential surfacing improvements on the A9 will upgrade the existing road surface on both sides of the dual carriageway at Daviot, greatly enhancing the quality and safety for road users.

“The traffic management is essential for ensuring the safety of roadworkers and motorists during the project.

"We’ve taken steps to help minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible by programming the improvements to be carried out overnight and avoiding Friday and Saturday nights.

"The closure of the north Moy junction is essential to keep everyone safe when the surfacing improvements are taking place within the area.

“Our teams will do all they can to carry out the improvements as quickly and safely as possible.

"We thank motorists for their patience ahead of these road improvements and we encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information.”
