5 feelgood things to do in Inverness this weekend





There's plenty of Easter action going on this weekend – don't miss The Great Inverness Easter Egg Hunt (and check out our 5 fun family time things for more ideas). But there's also some prime comedy, a triple-set of rock bands, a Gaelic western set in Canada at the theatre and speed metal fans have a special one-off premiere to plan for too ...

1 It's Mario-time!

Big family movie this week has to be The Super Mario Bros Movie (PG) as Brooklyn plumber Mario must defeat arch-enemy Bowser to save the world. You can catch it at both Eden Court Cinema and Vue Cinema Inverness.

2 Happy Easter!

There are lots of Easter-themed events around over the weekend and one that's there to test your powers of observation and get you checking out the town centre on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8 is The Great Inverness Easter Egg Hunt from 11-4pm each daya free hunt for eggs in city centre shop windows with the help of a map and there are also some golden eggs to help you reveal the Easter Bunny’s name! When you’ve found all the eggs, post your entry form back at either entry point for the chance to receive your prize! Pick up an entry form – and your map – from outside the Steeple at the top of Church Street or inside Eastgate Centre at the Falcon Square entrance – or downloadable via this link INFO: And if you're in the town centre for that, don't forget to check out the activities such as free Easter crafts, face painting, street entertainers, balloon sculptures and meeting the giant cuddly bunnies and bears. The Victorian Market also has Easter activities and music – with Inverness musician Calum MacPhail on Saturday (1-3pm) playing live with Sean Cousins. Music planned for Friday includes trad duo Rachel and Jordan of Lairag (1-3pm); DJs from HOUSEHOLD on tunes with hints of disco and jazz (4-7pm); Saturday – fingerstyle guitarist Liam Ross (4.30-5.30pm); Sunday – singer Siobhan Neylon (1-3pm);

3 Need a laugh?

The Comedy Bothy is back for the monthly show on Friday, April 7 at The Tooth And Claw this time with headliner Mike Hendry, a Bothy stalwart since 2014. The night will be hosted by Kieran Lochore. Doors open 8.30pm, showtime is 9pm.

4 Let's rock ...

Three bands from across the North get together at the Tooth & Claw on Saturday, April 8 from 7pm – that's Inverness band Lucille with Thurso’s Rain in Summer and Aberdeen’s The Sun Days. Lucille have been working on their next big anthem, new single Know You're Not Alone and will be joining The Dihydro for a string of upcoming dates ... more on that next week!

5 A Gaelic western

For just one night, something a little bit different not to miss on stage at Eden Court, on Tuesday, April 11 as drama Stornoway, Quebec takes the action back to 1888. A snowstorm traps a bounty hunter in a saloon bar with Canada’s most wanted man. In Gaelic with English subtitles and for audiences 12+. The show starts at 7pm.

DON'T MISS: Enter ... Metallica

Get it in the diary, speed metal fans, A one-off screening not to miss next Thursday (April 13) at 7pm the Metallica – Global Premiere (15) unveiling of the band's new studio album 72 Seasons at Vue Cinema Inverness. The event will see a worldwide sharing of the album including interviews with the band and music videos for each song as well as a delve into the origins and story of each new song.
